Q. I have a small steel swing from Sears that dates from the late 1910s or early 1920s. I think it may have been intended for children. It has long steel slats and a bit of scrollwork on the arms. Can you help me identify this piece and tell me the original purchase price?

A. We found an item similar to the one you describe in the spring 1917 Chicago edition catalog, on page 1050. It was indeed a child’s swing, intended for children 10–12 years old. The price listed in the catalog is $1.38.
