Q. I have an old Meriden shotgun. I don’t know much about it other than it is a 12-gauge, hammerless, side-by-side model. I’ve heard that Sears sold a lot of these guns in the early 1900s. Can you tell me about the shotgun?
A. During the early part of the 20th century, Sears sold many different models of Meriden shotguns. We can tell you that Sears sold Meriden firearms as early as 1905 and continued selling them until the fall 1918 Chicago edition catalog, which stated that "the factory at Meriden where the well known Meriden Fire Arms were made has discontinued the manufacture of sporting fire arms." Here is page 1206 of the fall 1914 Chicago edition catalog to show you an example of the catalog advertisement for Meriden shotguns. It features three different models that match your description.
