Sears launches Allstate Insurance Company.

Julius Rosenwald, chairman of the board since 1924, dies. His son, Lessing, succeeds as chairman.

Original Chicago-State Street store opens.

Sears issues its first Christmas catalog.

First windowless department store opens at the Chicago-Englewood location.

Sears News-Graphic, an employee newspaper, debuts and is later forwarded to draftees when World War II begins.

Sears celebrates its 50th anniversary (the "Golden Jubilee").

Robert E. Wood is named chairman.
